Leisure and entertainment
Brazzaville is a mecca of culture: it hosts the biennial Pan-African Music Festival (Fespam) to enhance and promote traditional, modern, and religious African music. It is a true cultural event offering exhibitions, workshops and symposia bringing together experts in musicology.
There are a number of theatres emerging in Brazzaville. The oldest cinema is Cfrad, near the presidency, and the former French Cultural Institute and conference rooms are sometimes used as a theater.
As for cinemas, many have been sold and now serve as places of worship or hardware stores run by West Africans. Movie theaters today are very small or a projected in a small space using a television or DVD set.
